Font names and style-linking
Styles will be grouped by family in OpenType-savvy applications from Adobe, Apple and Redlex.
In non-OpenType-savvy office applications and a few legacy applications, Italic styles will be linked to upright styles of the same weight – provided that the family includes Italic styles. But there is no Bold-style-linking – we came to the conclusion that this does not make sense if a family has more weights than Regular and Bold.
So there is is a rule when using KLTF OpenType fonts in such applications: You may use the 'Italic' button if the family has Italic styles, but never use the 'Bold' button!
[1]
Would you like to use a KLTF font family as a fully style-linked family (of four standard styles Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic) in office applications? Please
send us an email and specify which weights shall become Regular and Bold! We will prepare a style-linked family for you at no extra costs.
[1] This 'never use' recommendation is valid for KLTF fonts only. Other foundries may or may not style-link their fonts, so using 'Italic' and 'Bold' buttons may or may not return original Italic or Bold designs.
